As part of our Crop Consulting Services, Plant Sciences provides extensive and experienced service in the area of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Each growers' pest problem is unique, depending on factors such as crop species, soil conditions, climate and microclimate. Our licensed Pest Control Advisors evaluate each site in detail and determine its needs for control of insect, mite, disease, and nutritional problems. After the initial evaluation of the site and its pest situation, an IPM program is developed to meet the specific needs of that grower.
The IPM program typically involves the application of beneficial insect species, such as natural predators or parasites, to deal directly with the detrimental pest population. In conjunction, selective pesticides may be used, and recommendations may be made for modification of cultural techniques, such as drainage and soil preparation. In this way, IPM is part of the overall consideration in the development of our Crop Consulting programs.
Once the IPM program is in place, Plant Sciences' professionals continue to maintain and closely monitor its progress. Augmentative releases of predators and parasitoids are made, as necessary, to correspond with increases in pest populations. Cultural practices are also monitored and modified as needed. It is this dedication to continuing customer service, along with decades of scientific and agricultural expertise, that make Plant Sciences IPM programs a formidable, integrated arsenal in the fight against pest and pathogen damage.
